Wes, Spider-Man

There are many things to write about. First off, I want to wish my friend nighthawk a happy birthday.

And now, some things to talk about. Today Wes left. He left seattle on a bus and he won't be back for a long time. This saddens me. I have spend a lot of time with him in the past several months. He has become a really close friend of mine. It's just really hard to actually accept that he left. He left for Delaware and is going to join the military. This blows my mind.
So I had one final day to run around with him. Wes, Tony and I had lunch and then me and Wes walked around for a bit. Drank a bit and played some pool. It was really a nice send off, I think.

Then as the clock got a bit later, we said our goodbyes and I went off to see Spider-Man. That movie was tons of fun. I have always loved Spider-Man. The characters in that comic are all so interesting. I was also quite surprised by the acting in the movie. Yes, a fun action packed movie that I think people will enjoy. It's totally going to make bank, just like X-Men did. Can Spider-Man 2 come out any sooner, please?

The plans now? I'm off again. Heading up to Betsy's party. I'm quite fashionably late now.

Why you shouldn't join the military (from a friend's post on, from a letter from his brother):

a) We have "body hardening" classes where we punch and kick each other on our pressure points
b) We have had a suicide class because recruits have attempted
c) a recruit died about 3 weeks ago, but not in our platoon
d) we have to put 2 people per pisser and shitter just to have time to pee
e) we don't quite reach our quota of 8 hours of sleep a night
f) I take a shit about every 3 or 4 days
g) we all wash <-- that thought was from two days ago so I don't know where I was going with that one
h) a recruit hit another recruit in the face with an alice pack (bookbag) -loosened a tooth & bloodied lips
i) recruits cry
j) this recruit hasn't had an orgasm in four weeks for the first time in his life
k) church is actually fun here

Now, this will make me unpopular most likely....

But your friend sounds like a wuss who's taking everything way out of whack in mails home out of panic.

a) this would be a good thing when you have to hand to hand combat.
b) this is moronic - why commit suicide when you can quit?
all the rest sound like whining because of stress, frankly. thw whole thing is, it's VOLUNTARY. if your friend would have done some research into what he was doing and asked around, then made a concious decision about joing the military (sounds like the army to me - i'm joining the air force yo.) it might have been a different story. but i'll bet your bottom dollar he just enlisted whithout really doing some hardcore thought into it.
i also have serious doubts about the validity of most of his claims. recently the media has been allowed into many boot camps, and i'm near positive they would have picked up on a story like this and slammed it across the front pages. just like tailhook, except with death, which the media LOVES to cover.

just my 2 cents.
