The people spoke and so i went and saw Harry Potter. It was decent. I wasn't blown away by it or anything, but it was a fun movie.
A couple notes about it. It didn't feel long to me at all. It moved very quickly.
The special effects were quite pretty.
That game that they play, it doesn't make sense. I mean, it does, except for the whole seeker part. That seems to make the rest of the game pointless, doesn't it?
John Williams, as a composer, is overrated.
I think more movies are in order, though. I demand sequels!

After the movie, I came home and am now eating mac & cheese and drinking beer. my life is so exciting, isn't it?

well, at least crappy beer does.
there are some differences in quality and taste, depending on what you get.

the game does make sense, they just messed up and claimed that whoever catches the snitch wins, when in fact that team just gets a lot of points and the game ends. if the other team has enough of a lead, they can win even if they dont catch the snitch. umm.. yeah, you have to read the books for a lot of the movie to make any sense at all.

the rest of the movie made prefect sense to me. i don't think reading the book was required at all.
and the game makes sense. it's just that the team who's seeker catches the little ball gets so many points that it basically makes the rest of the game pointless. maybe if it was worth half as much, it would have made more sense. I suppose math just isn't J.K Rowling's strong suit. :P

As explained in the book, some quidditch games go on for days, with the teams scoring points all the time. Only when the snitch is caught can the game end, and if you've been scoring points for 3 days, it's possible to win even though the snitch is worth a lot.

Yea. I think that was a very important detail about the game that was left out. They should have just mentioned that there have been games that have gone on for days. If Harry Potter wasn't just a goddamn pimp, it would have made more sense. heh.

no, cause that winds up being significant in certain aspects of the game / several of the games played out in the books...

Good thing I don't know where you live, buddy..... Ah, well, to each his own. But c'mon!!! John Williams rules!! And has for more than 30 years. Dood...

I have always thought that his work was nothing special. Having 30 years in the industry doesn't make it good.
Give me a Danny Elfman score, or a Philip Glass score over John Williams any day.

They are making two more sequels to Harry Potter. Almost immediately, because they don't want to have to recast the kids. The sequels will probably BOTH be out in 1 - 2 years, if that long.

Yea, next one is suppose to come out in a year. I think they want to do something similar to Lord of the Rings and have one movie every year.

I haven't heard the score from Harry Potter yet, but I've talked to other people who have seen it, and from personal experience, I know John Williams is NOT overrated. He's the man. Talk to you about that when I get home.

even if john williams is the man, there was definitely way too much of him in the movie last night. I don't think that I have ever seen a movie and been so aware of the soundtrack (this isn't a good thing). It was just like they cranked up the background music because they had john williams. I thought the music was the worst thing about the entire movie. But that's just my own opinion.

I knew that if I wrote that, I would get people running to defend him.
John Williams is definitely an important composer. He has the instant recongition because of being in so many films. Many of these films would not be the same without his music. I totally agree with this.
Now, with that said, I personally do not care for his work all that much. I have never had the urge to buy a score by him. Nothing by him has ever really impressed me. He just writes really poppy film scores.

As for Harry Potter's score, it was leveled too loud in the movie. It also didn't make me go "wow, this is neat". In fact, I barely remember what it sound like at all.

Of course, this is just my opinion. :)
