i wrote a bash script that will convert the diplomacy email into the maps quickly and easily. bash in interesting. i've been meaning to write some scripts in bash for learning purposes.

i'm glad i've set up this diplomacy judge. it has created an interest and a project that i can and have spent a lot of time on. this is good. :)

Re: Help...
Each player picks which power they want to control: There are 7 possible.
Each player tries to position his/her fleets and armies to capture supply centers.
There is no chance involved. To take any space on the board, a player must send more forces than the other. This involves supporting armies with other armies, or cutting (attacking) the enemy army/fleet that is trying to move into the same space.

It has such simple rules, but it gets insanely complicated, especially since everyone is talking to eachother (in this game, it's anonymously, ie, I don't know who Turkey or Russia is, I only know who the master is (patrick) and who I am)

There are better guides out there...

Re: Sounds good.
here are some rules. http://baasil.humbug.org.au/themob/diplomacy/rules.html. another site listing rules and examples is at http://www.gate.net/~lancast/diplomacy/howto.html. that will give you the basic idea of how gameplay works. games last a long time, actually, but there are always game starting up and being played on the internet.

or, if someone wants to be the master of another game, i have an inching to start another game. but i want to be a player. :) don't think we would be able to use my judge, though. since i have access to it and would have to do maintance and see things i shouldn't see if i'm only a player.

actully, i will rewrite this script in perl i think. but I was already dealing with a little bit of bash so i figured i write the whole thing that way. it wasn't too complicated and this one worked fine.

if i do write it in perl, there will be a lot of system calls as it is.
