Current
Yo pat, ron here.

I was just wondering if you could explain to me how to use the "current" stuff. I didn't understand exactly how to fuck with that particular variable in the style and I don't understand how one goes about using the feature. Help!

Re: Current
explain how it works in the style, eh? btw, i love the changes you made to your style, but back to the topic.

the first question is do you understand BML and how the variables work in the styles?

if you do, the %%currents%% goes in the event section wherever you want the current whatever to be listed.

in the currents section, you could do any formating that you want. you also need %%current%%.

the current section is where the actual current whatever goes. you need to include %%what%% and %%value%%.

here is what mine looks like.

this is the event section. notice the %%currents%% part. that's where the current whatever goes if i post a message with it.
LASTN_EVENT<=
%%datetime%% %%subject%% %%currents%%

%%event%% %%talklinks%%
<=LASTN_EVENT

this is my currents section. i didn't do anything here, but if i wanted something to appear only in front or behind all the current values, i could put it here.
LASTN_CURRENTS=>%%current%%

here is the current section. notice that in front of every current value, there is always a tilde and the word current. that's some formatting i did. also, the %%lc:what%%, lc means lower case.
LASTN_CURRENT=> ~ current %%lc:what%%: %%value%%

i hope that helped a little. it's sort of hard to explain. if you understand how the bml works, it's a little bit easier to understand.

Re: Current
Yes, I have a pretty good understanding of BML (considering I just sorta picked it up while fucking with the styles) and now that you explain the current thing, I find myself think "oh, duh" but I needed someone to light that path for some reason, so thanks. A cool thing I made up:

If you program your style to stick an "a name" command into your events, and you make the a name=%%itemid%% and then you program it so that the itemid gets printed somewhere in your journal, you can look at that number and use it to make links to specific entries. EG:

...and brad said we'd probably never use the Itemid variable...

Re: Current
wow. that's a really freakin' good idea. i didn't think of that. i wonder how i could use that, and if i included it, would i use it? hrm... i wonder.

Re: Current
wait just a minute...I just edited my style to find that I had already hooked up all that current mumbo jumbo...I guess what I'm really wondering is: "When I update my journal, where the hell do I input the values for %%what%% and %%value%%? Do I need to be using a client? Cause I ain't.

Re: Current
yep, you need a client. my vote is that you use loserjabber. of course that means installing linux and stuff, but then you would be cooler then all your friends. you could brag and stuff.
