Karl Rove to Resign

The Bush Whitehouse falls apart a little bit more.
Do you think this is an attempt to avoid being called to testify in front of congress?

That would be my guess. With the citations of Harriet Myers (and that other guy), Congress is showing that they're not going to stand for the administration's defiance of their oversight any longer. I think Rove is getting out while the gettin's good.

The whole thing is calculated, man. His "tearful goodbye" at the press conference... it's a pre-emptive strike. So if anyone criticizes his departure and claims it's politically motivated, the righteous right can say, "God, how can they be so cruel to this poor, tearful man who's leaving office? Can't they just let sleeping dogs lie?"

And for all we know this won't even change anything. It seems like a victory of some sort, but what does a "senior advisor" do, anyway? And how is what he does any different if Bush can still just pick up the phone and call him?

Exactly. Disconnecting himself from the official position just gives him more freedom to go off the record.
