vampires

I'm just about done with Salem's Lot. After finishing the Dark Tower cycle, this has been the next book I wanted to finish by Stephen King. The introduction of Father Callahan being the driving reason, but vampires are a fun topic for stories, too. Stephen King's complex version of them is interesting, where the vampirism is multi layered and acts more like a disease than anything else. I used to be so interested in vampires back in the day (ooh I was so goth!) but there has been way too many bad movies and it's all been ruined for me.

I've never really been scared of creepy crawlies or of the supernatural, but the texas chainsaw massacre has always terrified me. I don't believe in ghosts, but I do believe in crazy people who live out in the country and are fucked in the head.

Have you seen Wolf Creek? Dude... I don't -ever- want to go out into the middle of nowhere in Australia now.

Crazy people who will just start killing is a very scary idea. It constantly echos in our real life and is easy to pull parallels to.
I actually haven't seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre yet, but Friday the 13th was pretty scary when it wasn't stupid.

I'm not too picky when it comes to scary stories and a good scary movie will spook my imagination regardless of the type of story. Also, scary movies often mix elements together. Like Salem's Lot, where the entire town is turning into vampires and there is nowhere for the heros to turn for help in the end. It's similar to zombies because of the element of being out numbered and alone.

True
I should have put a nonfiction category, because the Al Gore movie scaried the hell out of me.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

specifically, when Large Marge says "and when they pulled the driver from the burning, twisted wreck, he looked. like. THIS BWOOHOOHOOHAAA" and the claymation went nuts.

i was traumatized for years.

Welcome to the fun world of livejournal! You're etiquette is just fine, the nice thing to do is to introduce yourself when you are adding people to your friendslist.

Common interests are always a good thing to start with. I'll add you back.

Vampires are great because of the Victorian sex subtext.

I can agree with that. A good vampire story will often be erotic as well as scary!

Actually, I'm surprised that Haunted Houses/Ghosts is the most popular section. Those movies are a big part of the horror genre, but they never really got me very scared.
