In a strange mood

For some reason, Yesterday and today have left me feeling really good. Livejournal updates have been slowly increasing the past month or so, but even just in the past 4 days.

The past two days I went to bed earlier, either so that I could wake up early or because I was FAWKING1 tired. How come whenever I wake before 10 am, I want to start watching a movie so that it will finish before noon? This is the best time to watch a serious drama, a old movie2, or a foreign film. But really, I should be exercising instead.

1. I Love TV is the best newspaper column, not only in The Stranger, but in the world. WM.™ STEVEN HUMPHREY has been posting in the slog more too, and he has kept me watching the slog almost as much as the day we lost our friends.

2. Before 1965.

You need to find a good deal on a treadmill or recumbent bike, so you can pop in a movie and watch while you exercise. Amazing how quickly time will pass if you're not really paying attention. And you don't have to push yourself like mad for a short period of time. It's good to get your heart rate up, to be the most effective. But if you spread it out (like over the span of the time it takes to watch a movie) then it can do quite a bit of good, too. Pretty soon it'll become habit.

Take Two
Actually, funny you should mention it. My parents have a treadmill in their TV room just for such purposes. I think my mom uses it in the mornings sometimes, but it appears to be gathering dust as of late. I've also made it to a couple gyms lately by using guest passes supplied by friends and family! Gyms are kinda rad. I like the YMCA quite a bit because it's filled with ugly people, like me!

Re: Take Two
Bitch, please. You aren't ugly. But yeah, if you mean real people who are there to lose weight, tone up and get their sweat on, then hell yes! My kinda place. I don't need to go somewhere that people have to first do their hair and make-up, slip into their brand new size 0 "workout" gear and proceed to half-assedly lift the 5lb weights before making the rounds to socialize and oogle the meatheads.

So you should totally try to resurrect your mom's treadmill to use in between gym visits.

Don't get me wrong, being surrounded by beautiful people is not a bad thing either. It's a strong selling point. I don't know which place I would end up subscribing to.

I will give the treadmill another shot though. I seem to remember it being very noisy. Maybe I'll rock my iPod instead.

Oh, I can see that side too. I've just been to a couple gyms where people who didn't seem too into it were taking up machines while chatting on cell phones or trying too hard to look "pretty" for everyone else. It didn't stop me from going, because I tend not to care if I'm looking fat, sweaty and "unattractive" while I'm attempting to fix the situation. I just appreciate more of the mixed environment, I guess. My favorite has been Ballard Fitness. I need to find another good one in West Seattle.

Depending on how old it is, and how long it's been since they had it serviced (if ever), it might be pretty noisy. Ours isn't set up by a television since we moved, so I tend to listen to an iPod. Need music with a good beat that can help keep me going. Sometimes the cheesier (see: 80's pop) the better.

A recommendation then!
Sufjan Steven's album Illinois was actually very good work out music. It moves in waves where it will be uptempo and then after a couple tracks, it gives you a calmer song before kicking it up a notch!

Re: A recommendation then!
Sounds good for interval training. I'll have to check it out, thanks! I also keep a cheap little CD player downstairs and enjoy working out to Matthew's Ironmix (2004?) CD and a mix CD that quent made for me a couple years ago, that has a good variety of tunes.

Comcast OnDemand also has some pretty interesting workout programs. Among other things, you can bellydance or do a Tai Chi workout with David Carradine!

Re: A recommendation then!
Oh yea, I'm sure the annual Ironmix is always a good choice. I've listened to it while making the lap around Greenlake before. Mix CDs are always a good way to go.

I'll have to check out the Comcast OnDemand. I don't use that very often.

Re: A recommendation then!
You did know there's OnDemand karaoke though, right? (Although ours has been hosed for the past few months. Unacceptable.) Not the greatest song selections, but it'll do in a pinch. :D

I'm not referring to it as entertainment.
Honestly, I didn't know how to mention that at all. It's not entertainment, but when it happened, The Stranger's slog helped me cope with it. Their ongoing coverage and questioning of everything was reaffirming that this community cares, and even though it was a sad time, it was one of the best moments in the history of The Stranger.

I'm sorry that I didn't put it better. It's a sentitive subject for all of us.

I'm not looking to offend anyone.
Again, I'm sorry.

There is really no tactful way of mentioning these things, but I don't want to ignore it either. It is a major landmark in all our lives and although you might not like me mentioning it at all, or in parrall to something silly like I Love TV, life doesn't seperate these things out for me.

Because I don't want to be disrepectful, or any ruder than I've already been, I've attempted to edit it a bit.

but now the footnote is garbage

Re: I'm not looking to offend anyone.
I still don't really feel like there was anything wrong with it the way it was before.

This is Holly Orlando (AKA "russian")

I'm trying to leave anonymous messages with most of my friends list (those who allow anonymous comments), because my LiveJournal has been hacked into. Hopefully everything will be resolved, as RUSSIAN has 6 years worth of memories. I'm just letting everyone know the situation and that if bizarre and fucked up comments/posts show up under my username, it isn't me.

Sasquatch is a big deal to me every year, and I don't plan on missing it any time soon. But seriously, the lineup gets stronger and more interesting every year. I can't wait until next year!

Oh MAN. I didn't even look into Sasquatch this year and I'm glad I didn't, because I wouldn't have been able to go. I've never known and liked so many of the bands playing.
