Hookah Bars to be banned

According to Komo News, Hookah Bars will be banned from existing in washington state. I was worried about this because I have recently found the delight of going to The Rabbit Hole in the u-district. I think it's completely unfair to destroy a small business like this. Personally, I think there needs to be some loophole that allows hookah bars and cigar clubs to still exist.

Agreed, it's really sad. I like that place, and think young entrepreneurs shouldn't be punished by the smoking law.

Last time I was over there, I talked to Tim, the guy that owns the place and from what he said, he thought there was some exception for his business because more than 50% of his profits are from people smoking. And the article doesn't mention his business either.

But a quick google search does bring up some other forums talking about this and they all seem to come to the same conclusions I did.

He says he is going to run his business without any changes until the man comes down on him.

That makes sense. If the purpose of a business is to smoke inside the business, there shouldn't be an expectation of non-smoking.

From what I'm hearing, the fact that he doesn't serve food might win him favor.

When New York had it's smoking ban, there was none of this 25 foot nonsense, and cigar and hookah bars were allowed to exist.

My guess is that the hookah bar owners are going to sue, and win, for this loophole to exist. You cannot expect the state to be this draconian and win.

I'd like to see someone challenge the law in court and see what happens.

but in California (Westwood), don't they have to keep the tobacco outside? I don't remember for sure, but I think they still don't allow smoking inside there.

I'm an alumni of USC. Graduated last May. I also lived in Westwood for a month last summer for a summer music festival.

it'd make sense to allow for places where people can go to just smoke. i mean, seriously, there are no non-smokers at hookah bars.

but the law isn't about the nonsmokers, it's the about the employees health!

it will be interesting to watch this modern day prohibition take it's course.

Well, we shall see if the smoking ban actually does anything to that business. If the man comes calling, I have a feeling that that place is going to fight.

I've been alright. how have you been?
