The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has been a long anticipated movie for me. I grew up reading the books, they were my 'lord of the rings' kinda. I've seen the BBC tv show and I've filled my brain with Douglas Adams humor and ideas. Movies are a special thing for me and getting to see these ideas on a big screen, absorbing my full awareness for 110 minutes is an exciting prospect. So when it was all said and done, what did I think?

I liked it.

It had some weaknesses and the love story is tacked on, but the vast majority of it is excellent. Douglas Adams' writing shines through this and the film maker's vision of this universe is true to him. What it felt like to me was that they had a long script filled with all sorts of great ideas but with no ending. So they cut out a bunch of stuff and hired some screenplay writer to finish the movie all nice and neat. Nothing really wrong with that, the ending felt a little incomplete and it leads itself to another film.

I have to work tomorrow, so I'm cutting this off here.

A tacked-on love story is okay when the girl is that cute.

(IMDb says she was the love-intrest in Elf too, whom I also had a crush on. Funny.)

Zooey Deschanel? Yeah, she's very pretty. You should rent "All the Real Girls". Stunningly beautiful movie where is, once again, the love interest.

Also, according to this review, the whole love story angle was in DNA's version of the screenplay.

The love story itself is not the problem. I only really had issue with the way things got wrapped up at the end. There was too much change in the characters for how little character development happened.

It feels like there was some important scenes left on the cutting room floor.

Awesome. That means the DVD version will be like six hours long.

I love the book. I've read it 34945 times. The movie was okay, but boring at times. I was really disappointed. I liked the whale part though. Miss you!

There was a lot of parts that I really liked, but the story lacked and felt like it was cut down with hopes of a sequel.
