Today when I got home from work, I found that the harddrive on my computer had crashed. I have no idea what the cause was or anything, but I couldn't get the bios to detect the harddrive at all. This is very annoying. I lost a bunch of useful data. I ended up pulling out the harddrives from my old desktop that I'm not using anymore and formatting them and starting fresh with a windows XP install. Stupid computers, I don't like them. Getting this computer back to working order has taken up most of the night, but at least it's working again.

sometimes when one crashes if you disconnected it fully then re-insert it, you get one last chance to get some data.

Also it may have just been XP puking. You could always get a linux bootable cd and try mounting it.

Try http://www.knoppix.com/ for a boot cd. It should have recovery tools.

Re:
it was 2k that was on there, but it may be the os puking. but would the os cause the bios not to detect the device?
